Did that really happen?
Still in shock over the events of yesterday. A friend of mine and I had been talking about our blogs, and she had shared the Douglas Mallette video link. I was in the middle of watching that when I jumped back to facebook to see if she had said anything else and instead I saw a post from another facebook friend about how she was going off line to light a candle for Sandy Hook. I was like, "Who is Sandy Hook?"...
Sandy Hook is 20 children, between the ages of 5 and 10, murdered, slaughtered. This fucked with my head and my heart so much I sought the comforts of mother nature and headed to a local park to just breath.
What does this mean for us, our culture, that has always omitted children from violence like this? By dinner time yesterday, I had sort of pulled it together, but I know we, as a nation, will never "get over" this wound.

Douglas Mallette
He comes at things from the view point of make old things obsolete by creating new ways using the technologies available to us. He promotes forward thinking without the spin of conspiracy theories.
Thinking out loud....
How long could a human live without seeing a tree, like the face of mars kind of thing, and not let it change them in some way?
Our waste management system...to me looks like, say you got stabbed, and then I filled that hole with human shit.
It's sad, and he's probably right, if we are put in a high stress situation, this one being 20 people put on an island with one coconut tree, there would be fighting, but put us on an island with 500 trees and our environment immediately becomes less stressed. Why would our first reaction be to fight and bicker? Why is cooperation, not the first? And this leads into one of my paranoid scenarios where food becomes scarce, my first thought was, "We are going to need a way to defend our food sources?", not "We will grow more to share." Is this the human condition? SELF?

Friggin Facebook
A necessary evil? Possibly. When I see posts relating a news story and I see the comments and folks bickering and arguing, I only wish they could understand that, firstly violence should NOT be in any part of the situation, and second, bickering amongst ourselves only fuels the fire that enables them to keep us under their thumb. They are news stories. Who owns the newspapers, newsrooms? MONEY
After thought:
When did it become ok to hurt each other? It's accepted, almost expected in some cases.
